Girls and boys may participate in the inter-school leagues established by the Catholic School Athletic Association (CSAA). Members of the parish volunteer to coach the teams. All teams and squads are open to students of Saint Mary Academy. Fees assigned by the Saint Mary Academy Athletic Board and paid by those participating in the sport finance the purchase of equipment and uniforms and pay for league franchise fees.



Winter Sports Open Registration


Basketball (K-8 Grade) - Closes 10/12/22


Player Registration for Third through Eighth Grade

For grades 3-8, registration will be $110. Player evaluations will take place starting the week of Oct. 17th (specific dates and times TBD) with the first official games tipping off the week of Dec. 1st. As in past years, there will be boys and girls teams for 3-4 grade, 5-6 grade and 7-8 grade and our Monarch teams will compete in the CSAA league, complete with a postseason tournament. Any registration after Oct. 12th will result in a $50 LATE FEE.

Player Registration for Kindergarten through Second Grade

For grades K-2, registration is $65. Kindergarten play will be co-ed while first and second grade teams will have separate girls and boys squads. Those teams will include players from both grades like the older divisions. Games will be on Sundays and teams will have one weekday evening practice. Any registration after Oct. 12th will result in a $50 LATE FEE

Brian Miller will be in touch with Coaches regarding practices beginning in December. The first games for K-2 will not take place until after the holiday break in January.

Volunteer Policy


Reinstated for the 2022-23 school year, an athletics fee will be charged for all families participating in athletics only if volunteer requirements are not met. The athletics fee was established to cover the cost of hiring teen workers and a facilities supervisor when hosting games at SMA, and to encourage our Athletics families to volunteer at these hosted events. Collection of this fee will enable SMA to offer extended gym and facility hours for game scheduling. Should the collection of the athletics fee lead to a surplus of funds and an absence of capital projects, funds will be returned in the form of reduced registration fees in the following school year.



Athletics fee will be charged once per school year (expected in May 2023)
-Fee charged through FACTS Accounting
-Fee is charged PER FAMILY
-You are responsible for volunteering: One time for each season your child plays sports (Fall, Winter, Spring—up to 3seasons) AND one Athletic fundraising event
-Fee is only charged if you have NOT completed 1 qualifying volunteer credit during the school year per playing season + 1 other fundraising event (e.g., 4 credits total for a family that plays in all seasons)

How to earn a qualifying volunteer credit
-Volunteer shift during events hosted at SMA
-Coaching position in the current season (named in GameDay) and approved in accordance with CSAA guidelines
-Seat on the athletics board
-Shift at Athletics fundraising events (Fish Fry, Trivia, Golf Scramble, etc.)
-Recurring volunteer effort as determined and approved by Sport Coordinator AND their reporting Athletic Director

Fee of $100 will be assessed for each credit required but not fulfilled through volunteer activities (max of 4 credits due per family or potential for $400 fee)
